Part of a series? Nope! It's a standalone.
Goodreads / Purchase: Amazon - Barnes and Noble - The Book Depository
Abram and Juliette know each other. They’ve lived down the street from each other their whole lives. But they don’t really know each other—at least, not until Juliette’s mom and Abram’s dad have a torrid affair that culminates in a deadly car crash. Sharing the same subdivision is uncomfortable, to say the least. They don’t speak.
Fast-forward to the neighborhood pharmacy, a few months later. Abram decides to say hello. Then he decides to invite her to Taco Bell. To her surprise as well as his, she agrees. And the real love story begins.

I entered a giveaway for Finding Mr. Brightside because 1) The premise sounds so quirky and cute and right up by reading alley. and 2) It received extremely high praise from the one person on my Goodreads friends list who has read it. (And I trust her opinion because she reads great books.) So you could say my expectations were pretty high, but while I did enjoy this read for the most part, it fell flat for me.
Let me just get this issue out of the way: I don't like the word slut. I don't like other variations of the word, and I definitely don't like the way it's thrown around so carelessly in society today. I know it's become a sort of slang now, and lots of teenagers use it (believe me, I know. I'm at a public high school.), but it generally turns me off a person or a character. Which is part of the reason why I found it difficult to connect to Juliette and Abram. That might also have been because the book is on the shorter side.
Other than that though, there wasn't much to dislike, but there wasn't much that I liked either. Abram grew on me, and there were definitely some adorable and funny scenes, but this wasn't a stand-out kind of novel for me.
If you're looking for a cute, quick read that's a bit unconventional, Finding Mr. Brightside might be the book for you! Check it out.
Have you read it? What did you think? As always, let me know!
