Unhinged by A.G. Howard
Format: Owned, hardcover
Rating: 5/5 stars
Part of a series? Yes! This is the second in the Splintered trilogy.

Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the guy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly seductive Morpheus and the vindictive Queen Red. Now all she has to do is graduate high school and make it through prom so she can attend the prestigious art school in London she's always dreamed of.

That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.

As prom and graduation creep closer, Alyssa juggles Morpheus’s unsettling presence in her real world with trying to tell Jeb the truth about a past he’s forgotten. Glimpses of Wonderland start to bleed through her art and into her world in very disturbing ways, and Morpheus warns that Queen Red won’t be far behind.

If Alyssa stays in the human realm, she could endanger Jeb, her parents, and everyone she loves. But if she steps through the rabbit hole again, she'll face a deadly battle that could cost more than just her head.

I was debating typing "OMG" with multiple explanation points and sending this post out in to the world like that, but that's not a very sufficient review, is it? That's too bad because OMG basically sums up all of my feelings about this book.

First, let's talk about the world. If you've read Splintered, the first book in the trilogy, then you're already aware of how freaking cool this world is. It's a beautiful, creepy Alice in Wonderland based world, and it's amazing.

Then, we can talk about the characters, most importantly the boys (because that's the type of person I am, thankyouverymuch). Alyssa is one of the most kick-butt heroines I've ever read. She's strong, she's fierce, and she's got the most killer fashion sense. Morpheus definitely proved himself for me in this book. In the first one, I was a little eh about him, but seeing the way he genuinely cares about Alyssa even though he doesn't really show it all the time made me want to hug him. And JEB. Oh, Jeb. Though I do like Morpheus more than I did before, I am still Team Jeb (WET JEB FOR THE WIN.) all the way. There are some seriously swoony quotes from Jeb in this installment. This boy went through a lot in this book (all the characters did, really), and I ended up wanting to hug him and comfort him forever because bby.

Now we can talk about the writing and All the Plot Twists (except not really because I don't want to get spoilery). A.G. Howard is one of those authors who can almost literally paint pictures with her words. Her writing is so vivid and beautiful, and I love it a ton. And the plot twists! Unhinged was heavy with plot twists. We learn so many things about Alyssa and her family history and Morpheus and Wonderland that I literally gasped multiple while I was reading. Ooh, I just want to tell you EVERYTHING, but that would ruin everything for people who have not yet read it, so I think I'll stop here.

All you really need to know is that Unhinged is another amazing, wild ride of a book set in this beautiful world, and if you haven't yet picked up this series, you must! Ensnared, the last book in the series, comes out this week (TUESDAY!) , so now would be a great time to binge the whole trilogy because Unhinged will definitely leave you begging for the next one!
