The Disneyland Book Tag!
If you know me in real, or you follow me on any social media ever, then you probably already know that I'm obsessed with all things Disney, especially Disneyland. As in, I'm there three or four times a month. It's my favorite place. (And if you didn't, well, now you know!) Which is why when the darling Kaitlin @ Next Page Please tagged me in The Disneyland Book Tag that she created, I knew I had to do it.
Each category is based off a ride or attraction in the park. Some of these are ones Kaitlin originally included, and I added a couple. Without further ado, let's get started!
California Screamin' // A Fast-Paced Book
The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall was definitely a fast-paced and fun read. I was almost turning the pages before I was actually ready to read the next page because I just needed to know what happened next. Like, that's how fast my brain was moving while reading.
Haunted Mansion // A Book That Gave You the Creeps
I'm going to have to pick Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. You wouldn't think so, but weirdly enough, it did. I think it's the thought of people really knowing the intricacies of my business in the way the characters in this novel did that genuinely freaked me out.
Splash Mountain // A Book With a Great Build Up of Plot
I'm going to cheat a little bit and choose the whole Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo for this one. Watching the plot build and progress throughout the series filled me with such suspense that getting to the climax of the final book felt like an achievement I had waited my whole, short life for.
Space Mountain // A Book You Started Reading Knowing Little About it
I'm actually guilty of doing this with a whole lot of books, but most recently it was with Mackenzi Lee's This Monstrous Thing. I knew very little about it, which was great because it ended up surprising me in the best way. (Also, it just came out this week and it's pretty cool and you should read it that's all)
Radiator Spring's Racers (Cars Land) // A Book That You Had to Wait a Long Time For
I read The Mortal Instruments back when there were only three books, so I waited FOREVER for City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare. The anticipation was a lot to deal with, especially because I thought City of Glass was the perfect end to the series.
Peter Pan's Flight // A Contemporary with an Alternate World
The Pivot Point duology by Kasie West is hands down by favorite other-worldly contemporary-ish series ever. If you don't know what it's about, it's about superheroes interacting with normal folk, and it is awesome. West is an excellent writer.
Matterhorn // A Book That Got a Cover Change
The first book that came to mind was Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Here are both covers for comparison. I'm personally a fan of the new version (bottom).
Princess Fantasy Faire // A Book with a Whimsical Feel
I think Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt fits this category because it reads like a fairytale. Like Pivot Point, it's a contemporary that has fantastical elements that add whimsy and fun. It truly is a little gem of a novel.
Soarin' Over California // A book with excellent world-building
When I think of world-building, I generally think of fantasies, but I've recently realized how much work goes into contemporary world building. Even though they're set in the world we know, they still have to build up the setting, and some books do it better than others. My favorite contemporary world is in the Daylight Falls duology by Dahlia Adler, and my favorite fantasy world-building is in either Harry Potter or Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas!

What a fun tag! I feel like the only person alive that hasn't read the Grisha trilogy yet. Leigh Bardugo is going to be at Yallfest this year so I really need to get to that soon. I'm excited to get my books signed by her. And the cover change for Anna was so much better. :)
