Serena's 2015 in Review (The Non-Bookish Edition)

Earlier this week I posted my End of Year Survey, which documented by year in reading and blogging. My life isn't all books and blogs and Twitter, though, even though it totally looks like it sometimes. So I decided I would chronicle my year outside of my blogging life and let y'all know about my favorite things that 2015 brought me. Favorite movies, music, memories, etc.

So let's get started!

I absolutely adore Hamilton the Musical. It is BRILLIANT. There are so many jams in this musical. I didn't think I could have so many feelings about history, but obviously I was terribly mistaken. This is the opening number. Give it a listen!

One Direction's Made in the A.M. is wonderful. Every album they come out with is better than the last, and I've loved watching them grow as artists. My favorite song on the album is Perfect. Check out their Kimmel performance!

I love State Champs. They are one of my favorite bands that I've seen live, and I'm so in love with this album. There are so many songs on this album that I could listen to for days on end without getting tired of. My favorites tracks are All You Are Is History, Tooth and Nail, Shape Up, and Around the World and Back. Even if you're not a pop-punk person, I think this album has something for everybody.

This is Alessia Cara's debut album. She's only nineteen, but she's so extremely talented. Know-It-All is one of my favorite records of the year. Her lyrics are so honest and relevant, and I kind of want to be her best friend. Wild Things is my favorite track. It speaks to me as a perfectly un-cool teenage girl. I relate to I'm Yours so hard. Not because I've been in love but because liking people can be so frustrating. And Stars is just so beautiful. Definitely give this album a listen.

The Maine is love and love is real. American Candy is might possibly be my favorite of all the albums they have put out. Miles Away is a song that I love to jam to when I'm driving by myself. American Candy is definitely worthy of being the title track. And (Un)lost and Another Night on Mars are just amazing. American Candy is heaven to my ears.
My two television obsessions that I started watching this year exist in the same world: The Flash and Arrow. I love the characters (Felicity Smoak is my spirit animal, and Olicity is my life.), the world, the action. Both shows are awesome. And the crossover episodes make my life so much better.
THESE TWO.

CSI, my most favorite television show, ended earlier this year, with a super emotional finale that left me feeling all sorts of feelings for weeks.

The Good Dinosaur also left me in a glass case of emotions. Seriously, the last ten minutes really messed me up. One of the best movies of the year for sure.

Age of Ultron is another amazing 2015 release. I love this cast, and I love this franchise.

Marvel was totally killing it this summer, and they came out with Antman this summer as well. It was a lot funnier and less serious than other Marvel movies, but I surprisingly loved it anyway.
So much happened this year. There were concerts and Disneyland trips and book events and tons of great people and great food (oh my goodness, FOOD.). Here are some of my very favorite moments of the year. There are endless other memories that weren't captured in photos.

1. I saw Taylor Swift for the first time ever this year. This has been a dream since the fourth grade for me.
2. I stage-managed my first show, an adaption of The Snow Queen.

 3. My family and I got Disneyland passes again! We've spent a lot of time there.
I met all the princesses (except one!) this year, which was my birthday wish for my sixteenth.
From the top right, clockwise: The cupcakes they gave out on the day of the actual 60th anniversary of Disneyland! / Myself and Captain America *swoons* / A Monte Cristo sandwich - one of my favorite Disney meals! / The family and me with Tigger!
4. Being a part of OTSP Secret Sister! My sister for the last round, Crystal, was so good to me, and I'm so excited to find out who my sister for this round is because I want to tackle hug her for spoiling me.

5. I got my driver's license this year! It's been stressful at times (I got two flats this year!), but I do like being able to drive.

That's my year in a nutshell. It was stressful and crazy and fun and pretty dang good overall. Tell me your favorites of the year! I want to hear about all your memories and obsessions. I'd also like to thank each and every one of you who have followed the blog or read or shared one of my posts. You guys are awesome! See you next year!

  1. it was so much fun reading about your year serena! i always love december for the singular reason of having time to look back & reflect. i saw taylor swift this past year as well which was amazing! your pictures look fantastic, i'm so happy you had a great time! and can you believe it, i still haven't listened to the entire hamilton soundtrack! i've listened to a couple of songs here and there but still ahve yet to sit down to listen to the entire soundtrack start to finish. i've heard so much about it, all my friends are obsessed and it sounds so cool (i remember first hearing about it in an article in vogue in june haha) but it just hasn't happened yet. i guess that's what winter breaks are for, though? like to catch up on all the things you don't normally have time for during the school year! xoxo hope you have a great 2016 serena!

    1. Aw, Annie! Thanks for stopping by and reading about my year! Isn't Taylor just so wonderful live? *insert heart eye emoji here* I adore her. And DUDE. You should definitely sit down and listen to Hamilton from beginning to end and get the full experience. Absolutely incredible. I cry pretty much from The Reynold's Pamphlet through the end of the show. And yes! Winter break has been the greatest catch-up period. I'm so thankful for it. Wishing you a happy new year as well! xoxo

    1. So much good music happened this year, but Alessia Cara's album is one of my favorites. I hope you give it a listen. So cool that she grew up in your town! And yes, I love Disneyland SO much. We're actually going to Disney World as my grab present next year, so I'm way excited. A friend just came back from Disneyland Paris, and it's GORGEOUS and I need to go there too. Thanks for stopping by, Nova! xoxo
